I got this old mic from my onkel before he died. It had been put away but I digged it out for a little time ago.

Anybody knows something about this? The only facts I have is that it is B&O and from Denmark. Its normaly been used with a taperecorder.

You are a lucky man!

I think that is a Bang and Olufsen BM6 Ribbon Microphone.

These are rare, delicate and worth a fair bit of money.

Look here:

http://www.beoworld.co.uk/microphones1.htm

The BM6 is half of a BM5 which is what I have.

"BM6 was a pressure-gradient ribbon microphone with full-frequency range, perfect figure-eight directional characteristic and a 3-position switch for speech, music and off. It had an international standard plug (DIN) and 150-ohm impedance - the internationally-accepted impedance for dynamic microphones in recording studios. Adding the BM7 microphone converted the BM6 into the BM5 mono/stereo microphone which could be use for stereo recordings according to the MS or AB method as desired."

Be careful with it since it is a ribbon microphone.

You will notice that the modern day R*oyer ribbon microphones are cosmetically built in the same way. Very nice!

Do you have a cable for it? You should plug it in and give it a shot. You don't need to use the step-up transformer which was for using with tape recorders.

Don't ever blow into it!

Let us know how you get on with it.

congrats!!
I think you have a B&O bm ribbon microphone. I have the stereo version and love it. your set seems pretty complete. Hope the ribbon survived through the years. be gentle to this one as it's a delicate affair. this microphone doesn't have a high sensibility so it needs a high gain, high input impedance preamp...
best wishes
