Might look expensive, but check this big tube mic that uses this exact same capsule:

Might be an indication that they really sound good. One would have to try and let us know, as I don´t know anyone that has this kind of russian mics.

I have an M1 capsule that I bought about 5 years ago. I used it for a long time as my primary vocal mic and I still think it sounds great, though lately I tend to use my soundelux U195 as it is a bit brighter... in a good way. If you already have an mc012 pre-amp, though, it is a great value for a really nice mic.
 
I could be full of shit, but I remember reading that the bias voltage from the oktava body is a good deal lower than the capsule is designed for. Obviously it works on the mc-012, but is not optimal which makes me think that you could do better - certainly different - if you went DIY.

I've been thinking of whipping up a 5840 circuit to stick in the 012 bodies -that would be fun to try with the Lomo capsule.

is there anyone familiar with the sound of vintage lomo mics that has heard either of the new screw on capsules?
