Hi,

I've built a two channel Green pre (put together parts more like) and have a question, which I'm sure will be followed by more questions.
I'm hoping to avoid living up to my screen name.

The v14 pre is specified to use +-15 and 48

Would +-18v be a problem?

So far everything has worked fine. I plugged a condenser mic in, and got some great sound last night.

However, when turning it on this morning, with no mics plugged in, I noticed that the 3rd 5532 got realllly hot. I've unplugged everything and await the wisdom of this board.

Thanks.

Don't worry about it. I also run it -+18V. I like the sound better than -+15

as a follow up to anyone in the future...

I changed the regulators to 15v to see if there was any difference in sound quality. I did this in an attempt to reduce the self noise of the preamp - which is already quite low.

The verdict - no difference between +-15v and +-18v with self noise. I could also hear no difference sonically in any other way either.
Evidently, the 5532's sonic characteristics don't really change for that 3 volts.
