Hi I´m looking forward to the classical ssl 5000 modules to be racked by myself, so anyone knows where could I buy them??? and the schematics to racked them???' cheers

Don't waste your money unless you can find a great deal ($200/module). My friend bought a bunch of 5000 modules from ebay, most of them were f'd up. I think I still have schematics for SL524, SL564, and some aux modules.

I recently racked up four SL615E (dual preamp) modules that sounded really good. Found them for $175 each. That was a sweet deal.

I bought mine from a guy called PRINCE JAMAL (capitals LOL) he lives on gearslutz.com. these were fine (a little bit of work was already done on them) and I'm happy. The rack I got from Recycled Audio UK. Now I know that you want to rack them yourself, but they might have some stuff anyway. Keith over there is a cool guy. (ex SSL tech)

Their stuff also sometimes goes on evilbay.

beware of a guy called "audiojunkie". he takes payment, but doesn't always deliver. :?

I heard these ppl. might have modules:

Audiojunkie!!!!! the same as ebay????? he is the worst person to buy that modules. I could write a thread of same pages about this guy. I don´t know how this guy is still alive  I think that in the next months there will appears a banner on internet with his face and the old classical far west "wanted dead or alive"
Never do a trade with audiojunkie is worst than a pirate

so look this guys what thinks about audiojunkie

I wonder if that's Keith Skerritt? -If so, he helped me with a 4K frame extension back in 1990...

Keith (not Skerritt!)

I've racked a couple of mic pres, and I have a couple of stereo input modules that I'm probably never going to rack up...

I don't have the pinouts, but the mic pres can be powered with the 9K PSU which I designed, in fact the very first veroboard prototype that was built was used to power the 5000 mic pres.

People buy the 5000 EQs and think they're getting "that SSL sound"... but the 4000, 6000 and 9000 EQs all were parametric... the 5000 is sweep-only. The 4k, 6k and 9k have high and low pass filters, the 5k doesn't.

The 5k is easy in that evberything is standalone balanced-in, and balanced-out using little hybrid driver modules, but I'm not a fan of the sound, and they're NOT the good SSL modules.

I'll sell my SL521 modules (stereo input, gain, polarity correction, balance and matched high-pass and low-pass filtering) if anyone wants them, but otherwise I'll hang on to them as a source for pots etc.

Keith

of course I prefer the 4k black or brown modules but I think that these modules are lot expensive than the 5k modules, of course I know they are not same but I don´t really need the extra quality of the 4k except if anybody sells me them for 200 euros
so i only need analog modules to rack them in less space, so I see the aphex modules and the ssl 5k and the ssl 5k seems to be better
ok email me to [email protected] to chat about the modules you sell...

Keith, a question please, what then is the big difference in sound. ? I've read many threads, and I'm happy with the 5K modules, I use them for trashy not beautiful, but what is it?
more open, more character (whatever that is LOL), more.....?
Thanks!

oh ps: the mic/line input modules I got, have high and lowpass filters.
