here's what the machine looks like...
I need to source a unknown part on one of the record/playback amplifier cards.

Is it a chip, I bet?
I have the manual for my 1/2 inch Tascam, but it is a TSR 8 or something like that.
The parts might be the same on the amp card.
I can take a look if you tell me what your lookin for.

Nice photographs - but how about a marked picture of the record/repro card showing the component you can't identify?

These machines originally came with a Manual - complete with all schematics - so there will be plenty of them about - somewhere!

[quote author="kiira"]I have a Tascam 38 and the manual too, but I don't have a scanner.

Where do you live? I like trains.

is it the operating manual or service manual ?

I live in CANADA, far away from Baltimore  although, if you drive all the way up the I-95 to Bangor Maine, and hang a 3 hour sharp right turn, it will get you into the zone of where I live. :green:

Do post a photo. As I recall the 38 had the same channel cards as the 32 and the 34. I have manuals for both the 32 and 34 with schematics and parts lists.

Take aa photo and get the part number off the board (c11 etc) if you can and I'll see what I can find.

Actually I thought why not so I scanned the 34B amp schematic in as a 3+ MB jpg. You can view it here:

This may help.

thanx man... So I beleive component U103 is toast... what is it that thing ?

OK, sure... got any for sale ?

It's a specific part of sorts hidden inside a small square can with a tiny screwdriver/pot for calibration, (bias voltage for erase head?) well welded to the PCB, and It appears to possibly have a Tascam part number stamped on it... looks like I'll need to make a phone call ?

Yup, bias osc. Just saw some of them on ebay. You could just pick up another channel card. Some folks have them lying around. Sadly not me else It would be in the mail.

regards

See if this has the same part number....
