I have been cross referencing and have some doubts on replacements. i can't find any companies that make the same without a difference. anyone with some success in replacements???

I got mine at "Farnell in one" In the UK but ship worldwide, I found the shipping faster than Mouser. I'm in Canada.

I have to put them into a focusrite 130 comp and the TO 39 package is what the pcb is set up for.Found a place on the west coast and hopefully I won't have to order from the uk. Just wanted to find out if someone had to go thru the same thing and had some wisdom on this matter... Got to get some for stock, have a focusrite console filled with them......

Dude, are you not paying any attention to the replies, or do you just have something against Mouser? Look at Toro Rojo's links again--Mouser has 'em, they're TO-39, they're in stock and they're (relatively) cheap!

It looks like Maplin recommends the 2N5320/2N5322 as a replacement/equivalent.

If you want to get picky the 2N3053 is only a 700mA part, the BC441 is a 2A part. The 3053 will work until the output gets shorted - depending on rail voltage and amplifier series output resistance you may or may not have trouble. That said, the 3053 is used in a lot of similar output driver circuits... the early 1176's are one and I think the Langevin EQ's are another.

2N5320/5322 data:

And for comparison, BC441/BC461 data:

Mouser has the 2N devices for under $2 each. I don't claim to know everything, but the 2N5320 looks like a dang good replacement!

In order to show my lack of total understanding, it would appear that the devices used for current boosting are not terribly critical to the "sound" of the circuit they are being used in? I'm referring to their use in the output of DOA's etc.
