pentodes connected as triodes

Interesting article but it does seem to concentrate mainly on power devices. I have been looking recently at cheap pentodes wired as triodes for use in mic pre-amps. In particular I have done quite a bit of work on the 6AU6 which comes in a B7G base. It is interesting because there is an alternative triode connection where the anode and suppressor are grounded and the screen grid is used as an anode, The advantage is the the suppressor and anode provide a ground on either side of the heater pins. Search for 6AU6 on rec.audio.tubes and you will find the threads where this has been discussed and where I published my results.

Cheers

there is an infinite area between triode and pentode, you can put the screen B+ wherever you want it, from ground, to full plate supply.
You can use a bypass cap, or no cap.
Tweake it for the lowest noise, look at the V76 for an example of this, games playesd with the B+ and screen resistors.

You can find "trioded" data of quite a few pentodes on Tom's website. Have a look here: http://www.tubes.mynetcologne.de/roehren/daten/as_triode_e.html

I supplied the EF80s :green:
