I just put together my passive spring reverb: Using a reamp to a Champ-type ~3.5w amp, I drive a pair of 1925 ohm input/600 ohm output acutronics spring tanks wired in parallel. On the output of each tank I have a 1:2 transformer wired backwards. (at least I think they are 1:2. They are Tamuras I stole out of some ampex tape machine electronics. They give me ~5 db gain/loss.) . These ouputs go into mic preamps for makeup gain. This setup works great, except when the power supply for my console is on it hums like crazy. I assume this is because of the gain required to bring the signal back to line level. any suggestions on this? should i get a set of transformers with a mu-metal shield? Oep?
thanks, ben

It sounds like you have some ground loop... going out of the console and then back in- this seems likely.
Have you tried lifting the ground on one end of the unit?
