A question is....

To make one compressor with all options, you have to freak with 3 boards and hardcore wiring.
There are Gyraf version of PCB's, sidechain and turbo PCB's...
I'd say, it is whole mess and too much mumbo-jumbo.

Now, finishing this project-
http://www.groupdiy.com/index.php?topic=38730
(fixing some stuff on PCB etc).

Here, one design with everything hooked together in 500 format...

Maybe, it can be good idea to leave audio boards with edge connectors as is
and add front panel PCB which can fit into 1RU?

If you are asking whether or not we'd like a 1U version of this project, then my vote is Hell Yes!

I think the edge connectors in there would be fine since it's always a pain to try to wire everything into the PCB here, there and everywhere.

I have to disappoint you, not just simply wiring to in/out XLR's and power supply, BUT:
NO OTHER WIRES!!!!! All sidechain control goes via ribbon flat cables.
(audio doesn't goes thru flatcables :)
This way, the wiring is even simplerrr!!!
:)

hi,
for the 500 format is exatcly what i search, and your project is realy fine for this format, ( i would have place to put real dbx 202 but) , the conception is bester if it's designed for 500 box and if someone want fit it on 1u he can do it by wire .

the other thing is i don't use extra sidechain like other menbers, and other don't use turbo ....... With the gyraf vesion 19"

To me is beautiful project for 500

it's diy

standard version that can be used as either 500 or rackmount is the way to go...

Almost here!

( i would have place to put real dbx 202 but)

Can be done with some mess :)

!!!

Yes, this is what I talking about - front panel PCB which fits into 1RU,
even with same names of components etc

the other thing is i don't use extra sidechain like other menbers, and other don't use turbo ....... With the gyraf vesion 19"

You can ommit turbo...

:)

To me is beautiful project for 500

Thanx!

Can someone please send me front panel dimensions most people used?

/pm or mail

ok panel sent.

my english language is a little poor.

my opinion is , the project like the other thread is realy fine and modeled for 500 series, GREAT

if someone want use it in 1U he can do it like other who did it with gyraf with some wire link between switch and panel. like here

Installturbo.jpg

Don't modify it for twoo format i think it's badly for performance

But i stay a beginer

i would to say we can do it with your first draw with some wire between the switch and pot and the face plate

But why work hard if this is possible to do without hardcore wiring?
:)

Cool. I started new project file for GSSL, for 1ru ffaceplate.

BTW, there's "Crush-N-Blend" option.....

What about if I put connector for this option inside as well?

Igor,
if you realise boards that can fit 1U cases and 500 format,
i will be in for ,at least, 5 boards,
this project had several revisions, turbo and sidechain options,CRC boards etc...
so a new full option design that can be mounted in the 2 cases would be amazing
and solve a lot of wiring (turbo, sidechain, illuminated or not switches, relays or not,etc,etc...)
amazing update for the GSSL project and easier build too,
Igor, you're the man !!!!!
Francois

it's the gssl Week

there is an other thread with a new design too but only for 19"

What about if I put connector for this option inside as well?

to enable or disable this options?

i can tell yes for those who don't want have it on the front panel.

if it's just me i keep it in case of "one day"

stereokillah, seems you misunderstood me.
I talking about connector for external Crush-N-Blend board.

How many people really need the option for DBX202?
It is possible, but I don't see any reason to do this as only maybe 5% of these boards
will be stuffed with 202's.

Anyway, this is the time to vote for option for 202 layout.
If more than 10 people will write here "Yes, please put 202 option on PCB",
I'll do this.

Nice!  8)
Crush & blend option would be a must for me, i can't live without it!
Would make my gssl a bit nicer inside  ;D
ssltop.jpg

BTW, it's even more modded right now because threshold and makeup are now elma 24 steps.  :-*

oooh. I like the sound of the stepped threshold / make up. handy for some applications.

Anyway, i would not  worried about dbx option, but see turbo as a must.

Also, I didnt understand if front panel switches would be PCB mount?

Hehe...right!

Agree.

Yes, the switches are Lorlin, PCB mount type.

202 option? Opinions?

sorry was tired,

for 202 i said it for ruckus328 he said
Smaller main board (50% - 75%) smaller than current design.
Designed for use with THAT2180/2181 VCA's.

i know yet you did it your with 4 that parrallel, that i think think bester than only one by channel

for the turbo, i know yet it's included

Nice project Igor,

I'd like to see the support for 202's added.

Please make the holes large enough to accomodate them and the associated circuitry properly.

The original GSSL board was a nightmare, I had to drill out the holes to make the 202 fit, and fitting the distortion trimmers was a challenge, ended up using wire pigtails to fly the trimmers out from the board, really not well thought out.

The original GSSL board was a nightmare,
Tell me :)

Well, I added new device(202) to VCA library, just have to move some things to
put this on board...in generall, should fit well. What is the pin diameter for 202?
