Axel,
With CNC you can do both, and much more.
Engraving might be tricky depending on the flatness of the surface engraved though.

The major issue is that the machine can only do 7" x 7"!

The aluminum I've milled so far was a small panel.

I'm going to try a 19" later this week - pics soon

I am aware that with a 7" axis, one would need 2 or 3 passes to make a 19" panel... And I guess you would need to work slowly with material like aluminum.
But my question was more the power/precision abilities of your ABS based Zentoolworks CNC?

Axel,

so far, I'm still learning. the best lesson so far is - on tough material, go slow, and don't try to chop off too much in one go!

Sounds silly, but by following those rules, I don't send drillbits flying across the garage.

I need to get some front panels to practice on from guitar center tonight - once I do that, I'll put some XLR holes in etc, just for practice.

Rochey, please keep us posted with your results!
I am really curious to know if such an affordable CNC can be usefull as far as working with aluminum goes...

the panels I got from GC are steel! I forsee some snapped bits in my future ;)
Anyway, I'm stealing this thread. I think I have another one running for my cnc.
