Well I never dreamed that I would own some SSL products but now I do :)
( apart from one or two that I built )

I'm just finishing up wiring new racks that arrived today and have been testing out the
X-Desk and Nucleus for the last three days .... now the room's all painted up and work desks are in.

These will be the "hub" of the new setup, one for analog recording and summing duties and one as the
controller for Logic / Poo tools.

I played some of my own mixes and commercial tracks that I know well, through the X-Desk - just stereo
files and it sounds really fantastic.
I don't remember ever hearing as much detail and stereo imaging through my Mackie 8 bus or the little VLZ
..... this is truly several leagues above :) ....... ( and should be for the price )
My GF even came in and commented on the sound without being prompted, which is VERY unusual !!

I'm VERY impressed with that and also the "Nucleus" which is now running my whole DAW setup and was pretty much
"plug and play" - I'll get into changing things to suit me as I go on but it's really a beautiful and comprehensive controller.
Will I use the preamps and USB recording side of it? .... perhaps not for now but it makes for a great total "in the box"
solution if you want to work that way.

I had a couple of questions and they got right back to me, seriously well built and exactly what I expected - and dreamed
of from SSL

It was a bit of a costly investment but is already proving to be worth every penny.

Marty.

Will get some pics up over the weekend, still loads to do !

X-Desk seems to be superb, very comprehensive and flexible setup
The only problem is that you need lots of DB25 connectors!
I had none ... So that can get expensive

Hi Marty,

Good to see someone with real life experience of this stuff. It's about the right size for our studio so I was planning to check it out sometime.

What's with all the 25 pin connectors? I guess it saves a lot of space - Got some on the I/O of my Audient stuff too.

Marty. I've got a big pile of DB25 connectors - Male & Female.
I'm not too far away from you either.
If you haven't already sorted it out, how many do you need ?

at least there is 2 major standards... the Tascam/Digidesign  and the Yamaha/Apogee Pinouts
other manufacturers use one or the other

http://www.aviom.com/library/technical-resources/75_db25-pinout-information.pdf

but

Apogee requires a cable to have the Yamaha pinout, while Digidesign requires the Tascam pinout, as mentioned earlier. Unless your Digi cable specifically mentions it is wired for Yamaha, which I doubt, this means it is Tascam pinout and will not work with an Apogee piece of gear.

In order for your Apogee to work, one side of the cable must be wired for Yamaha pinout.
