Hello there! I am new to the forum and after an awful lot of reading on the various options/versions of the 1176 I am again to where I began: absolute dark!! ;D So I have a question to all you kind gentleman who are willing to help in choosing with you esteemed opinions. I am going to use the comp maynly for bass in my rig (mostly for live gigs). I seek a clan transparent punchy sound. Moreover since most of the cases I found are 2u I am going to built a dual 1176. My problems are:
1. Which version of the 1176. And then which Mnats board.
2. Which output/input transformers (I tend to Lundahls)

Thank you in advance!

purely from an ergonomics standpoint, i'd say get a 500 module version, since they're smaller.  less work for you, also.  if you want a DIY module, igor makes a version of the 1176 in 500 module format with lundahl output option:

there are also plenty of commercial 500 module FET compressors, the purple action, pete's place BAC-500, etc.  build or buy the modules and plug and play into a 1RU rack.

you could do a dual in a 2RU with the mnats PCBs rev J and lundahls (or any rev, really but the holes are already there for the lundahls on the rev J PCB), but it is quite a bit of work (particularly wiring), so don't go down that road unless you're prepared.

I already drag a lot in every gig so an additional 2u won't be a problem I think. Is the approximate weight of a dual 1176 more than 5-6kg?

(I like the rev J for bass, but that's my preference)

Thanks for the valuable input Ed!! I found this http://www.diy-racked.com/diy-talk/viewtopic.php?f=7&t=100 so I ll probably try to set up  a 1176 in  format. Thanks a lot!!
