Does anyone here know if these can be bought seperately or if something similar exists from other manufacturers to be bought? Seems like a neat way to increase op amp performance from what I've read.

I don't know what gear that company does but I know a better (in fact best) option.

If you want the absolute technically best regulators possible for your audio projects, see here:

http://sjostromaudio.com/pages/hifi-projects

"Sjöström Super Regulators" are adaptations of the famous Jung regulators, but in a perfectly DIY friendly package. Just pick the set that best suits your needs. There's SMD, through-hole, dual rail, etc.

I have used them in several projects over the years. In fact I still have another set waiting for some project that needs this kind of NASA-grade DC performance. Maybe I'll build a sonar one day.

Here is the Ppwer supply I did for my last tweaky phono preamp..back in the '80s.  It was quite good, but it you want to get crazy, you could use a new uber opamp and make it even lower noise than the TL072 I used (around 3uV). Since i power the regulator opamp from the regulated supply it's overall PSRR is also above average.

Here's the parts list for the whole preamp..

Thanks John, I'll look into it!

The reason I ask for these regulators is that people report the Hypex amplifier modules with them fitted sound quite a bit better, and all those regulators do is provide power to the op amp before the actual amplifier. So I imagine this would be an easy was to improve the performance in a lot of gear by simply switching out standard regulators for the HxR ones, since many, especially the modern op amps seem to be quite sensitive to the quality of the power they get. But the regulators don't seem to be availible seperately...

I won't provide a definite answer or a schematic, but a few pointers:

1) depending on the current draw, you may get best results with a "shunt regulator" - f.e. look up "salas regulator" on diyaudio

2) depending on "cleanliness" of existing rails, you can achieve quite remarkable improvement with nothing more than a simplistic "capacitance multiplier"

3) if your current draw needs are larger, you should use a "super regulator" of some sort.

4) if your current draw needs are same as above, but you want to experiment and "keep the vintage vibe", there are options to build a "discrete voltage regulator", most probably something "classic", along these lines:

The Hypex class D amp modules spec out very well without redesign effort.  http://www.hypex.nl/docs/papers/ncore%20wp.pdf  Looking at a recent white paper by Bruno, shows 2 tone IMD down >100 dB which strikes me as quite good.

My PS design was kind of an exercise in excess, not really a practical design to address a real problem.

PSRR of decent modern opamps, used at modest gains is quite good, so even a simple 3 terminal regulator should perform adequately

Before you do a ton of work, try hanging some large caps on the existing regulators and see if you can measure a difference.

The relationship between PS noise and audio path is defined in the spec sheet while you need to factor in noise gain of specific gain blocks to factor that PSRR by, since it is referenced to opamp inputs, not outputs.

But those are not regulator parts but whole PSUs on PCBs, aren't they?

There's full PSU's, plain regulators, and more.

You probably want either this: http://sjostromaudio.com/pages/hifi-projects/36-hifi-projects/95-jsr01-sjoestroem-super-regulator (SMD, very small size, same PCB for both positive and negative rail)

or these if you need more current and flexibility:
http://sjostromaudio.com/pages/hifi-projects/36-hifi-projects/97-jsr03-sjoestroem-super-regulator (positive rail)
http://sjostromaudio.com/pages/hifi-projects/36-hifi-projects/99-jsr05-sjoestroem-super-regulator (negative rail)

actually there seems to be a newer revision of the above here:
http://sjostromaudio.com/pages/hifi-projects/36-hifi-projects/70-ssr01-sjoestroem-super-regulator
http://sjostromaudio.com/pages/hifi-projects/36-hifi-projects/71-ssr02-sjoestroem-super-regulator-negative

All of the above can be configured in plain "three terminal" configuration like LM7815/LM7915 for example.

Yes, they speq out great, and the regulators only affect the op amp before the actual class D  amp. But according to people who tried several varients of the Hypex amps the regulators help the op amp to beform audibly better. Hypex is no snake oil merchant, so I figured there might be something to it.

Again, thanks everyone!

You can buy these at Hypex webshop and they are of a very nice design of the genius Mr. Bruno Putzeys

looks like the sjöström links are outdated because the site has changed as bit over the years. start here: http://sjostromaudio.com/pages/

peranders, no need to be shy, isn't this your company?  ;D

No prob, found what i need, and got that relation with "peranders" at the same time ;)

I changed to Joomla 3 and it's rather hopeless to have the same links due to the function "SEO" (Search Engine Optimization)
