Does anyone have any good sources/ideas for a custom or brandless badge for a DIY microphone build such as this...

It would really be a cool touch to add to a DIY mic build.

I beleive there is a thread on this Somewhere by Ethan,

not sure where but t is here ,

Best,
dan,

I had some badges laser engraved by user Chae Ham.  At one point he had a white market thread but I don't see it any longer.  Perhaps you might PM him and see if he still does them.  They were very inexpensive and VERY high quality.

I found the following thread...

Chae Ham has a website - http://www.prodigy-eng.com/services/laser-engraving/

Chae emailed me this link for the badges.

$15 a badge. Not bad for custom microphone badges!

Did them for 2-3€ per badge @ 10 badges, with painting. They are not, however, bended, you have to do that yourself.

We have two types of badges made for our microphones and other audio products. The first is a serial model number tag done in selectively dyed anodized aluminum. The second is an etched and soft enameled medallion done in brass.

The latter looks very nice...it has a tactile 3-d effect. The cost is low, but the quantities have to be quite large. It's chemically machined...we get 1728 medallions per 18x24 sheet.

But...

If one was familiar with DIY circuit board making I think this could be done in the home shop. The etching is deeper than a typical PCB but dry film photoresist can stand up to it. Ours has 5-7 mil pockets for color fill on one side but is etched from both sides on the outer periphery all the way through except for two breakout tabs.
You simply spray the entire sheet with enamel then wipe off most of the paint from the raised areas. Then a quick sand/ buff to remove any residue from the high spots and a protective clear overcoat.

The medallions can be bent to a curve altough we don't.

It looks very nice. But laser engraving anodized aluminum is much easier!

For the bending, I taped the badge to a 1" socket wrench attachment. I used about 3-4 layers of duct tape over the badge to protect it during the bending. Next I bought a hose clamp at Home Depot (1"- 3" should work fine). I tightened the clamp and viola! The badge was pretty perfectly curved in about 3 minutes time. I used some double-sided clear tape to adhere it to the body. I think some glue would look better, but I'm all for the more forgiving approach for now.

I'll post a pic later!

Ican produce high quality badges from brass, aluminium, cooper etc. Different color fillings are available. Price of course depends on qty. If there is still someone interested in badges, contact me.

Kind regards,
Andrew
