Hot glue?

Attached is a pic of the pcb in a SP mic – are those blobs on the wire-to-board joints hot-glue?  Is that simply securing the connection or is it there to insulate it?

My guess would be that it's hot glue and it's just there for mechanical support. It could be silicone - poke it - it'll feel rubbery rather than hard and plasticky.
 
Looks much more like a hot glue for me :p

Transparency of hot glue depends on temperature of the "pistol".
At the photo, some are more transparent, some not - cheap "pistol"?
