I am building Gyraf G9 mic pre
I have a question about capacitors.
What working voltage should I look for when ordering capacitors? AC? or DC?
It is not stated in BOM.
For example from the BOM:
C10,110 22OnF 250V POLYESTER    SRPP INPUT DC BLOCK
is 250V AC or DC

I found WIMA capacitor
4,7uF; 160VAC; 250VDC; 27,5mm

Will it work OK?
cheers

Cześć Miłosz  :)

All capacitors (except those special for AC voltage like X2 type etc.) are rated for DC voltage, so if in the BOM is statement:
C13,113 4U7 250V POLYESTER      SRPP OUTPUT CAP  - it means 250VDC.
Those Wima are fine.

Are the polyester capacitors interchangable with polypropylene ones?
For example
C5,105 470nF 250V POLYESTER STAGE1 OUTPUT
Can I use here: WIMA MKP10-470N/630 - polypropylene 470nF;630VDC ?

cheers

In most applications all the, DC rated, foil type capacitors (polyester, polypropylene, polycarbonate, polystyrene) are interchangable.
Are you sure, that you are able to make G9? I don't want to be mean, but you are asking about really basic stuff (of course always is good to ask).
If you have no experience with electronics, maybe you should choose something easier than the tube circuit, something that can't "hurt" you. Definitely you should read about the safety rules - for example on trioda forum or fonar site, where is many useful informations.

Thanks ln76d
No problem. I never get offensed  :). I am happy you asked me about the safety.
I built some small units for my home studio like reamping box, Phantom powered piezo preamp, direct box, 9v battery powered guitar amp.
G9 will be my first wall plug 230 VAC powered unit. I am aware that this is no joke. I will check everything 10 times before I even think of turning it on.
I have loads of humility when it comes to this project.
I will re-read safety rules couple of times again and check trioda and fonar forums, just like you suggest...
I already have 70% of parts for G9 so I already pulled the trigger and I want to build it.
I hope you guys on this forum will help me when I have questions.
I am not affraid to ask basic questions...  :)

That's good, because it wasn't my intention at all :)
If it were topic about some "low voltage" project, I would not mention anything.

If i be able, you can count on me.
If you will have issues with availability of parts, just send me p.m.
I often buying parts, so i can recommend few good sources.

It's not a sin, i'm doing this all of the time :D
Always is better to ask, than doing something blindly :)
