I'd be curious if anyone is actually reporting sonic differences in an amp like this, regardless of internal tweaks.

I'm not sure there is difference between 990C+ and 990C or 990

but just don't want to change my 550e's sound if I put 990C+ on it

You won't notice any difference......as the difference is negligible.
