Hi folks!

What would you recommend me for a dual mono eq?

- For tracking and mixing, and perhaps mastering
- Preferably stepped, but depends
- Low to medium cost
- Easy to medium hard to build
- Not to many vendors
- Frontpanels, case or at least front-panel-layout easy available
- 1U max 3U, 500 is possible (but don't have 500-rack at the moment)
- HPF is a bonus
- I like tubes and transformers but not necessary
- Style not so aggressive, more acoustic pop, jazz, soul, classical + maybe some interest in vintage 60's sound

Ok that will do ;)
Thank! But I guess soldering and wiring those stepped pots are a pita.
Anything with stepped pcb-mount footprint?
I could of course go non-stepped as well. Would work for tracking and mixing, but recall will be harder.

Or maybe a pcb-based switch is all I need

?

Those switches are 47 position. There would be no use for them in the net EQ. Max deck is 24.

Have a look at the pultec builds out there

Its repetitive, but not hard to do at all.

Looking at your list, it may be the best option to audition various commercial options and buy one!?

Give a consideration to my EQ ONE. Though in 500 format.

Yes, maybe 500-series and buying a couple. Depends on price though.

Well, that's worth consideration. Looks very versatile.
Need a Lindell 10slot 50rack or something then. Of course 2 channels and rack adds up a bit too.

I have a new rack. metalwork is in manufacture and just about ready.

However, I am also working on a dual 2U version. The potentiometer/switch sub cards connect to the main eq board with ribbons and it is possible to re-position them horizontally . If you are up to some drilling then I can supply you the brushed chrome facia in 2U layout then this could be a good prototyping exercise. I also have the dual/triple psu boards, transformers etc.

Thanks!
I realizing, I'm not using the typical pultec eq-shelves much. Yet, I love the sound of the unit :)
I believe some typical 3-4band with some adjustable Q is what suit me best.

I have a set of Calrec pcps(2). What has stopped me from starting the project is maybe the question about stepped pots,
and I just couldn't like the front-designs I've seen.

But if I put some time and money into frontpanel design and manufacuring,
I now think a dual Calrec can work for me. With non-stepped pots.

A saw this nice looking and sounding demo at least:

This looks quite good  :)
