that's right, nothing more than that,

just thought you might like to take a peak at a Groove Tubes rectifier thingy,

maybe you have a Champ Amp with a 5Y3 and you want to blow up the filter caps,

simply remove the 5Y3 rectifer tube, or whatever pinout this was made for, and whtch the steam bubble out of the filter  cap as the tubes explode,  ;D

well, maybe not, but be aware of the possibility,

you can make one out of an old tube base,

1N4007 diodes are cheap,

all you need is four of them and some solder,

and that orange thing shown in the previous pic, some type of end cap,  i have seen it in a hardware store but i forget which isle,

probably isle GZ34,  :D

let's expand this conversation into a full blown tube comparison shootout,

Gerald Weber was nice enough to throw down with a conglomerate rect tube smorgasbord sheet,

try out a Kendrick amp today, if you get the chance,

these sheets are cool because you can estimate the voltage drop you get with each tube and use this info to get more compression if you need it, the larger the drop, the more the pwr supply will sag when you hit a power chord in D Flat,

To avoid blowing up smoothing caps why not include series resistors in the can to emulate the series resistance of the original tubes?

Cheers

Also done in early SS when changing selenium to silicon, there more for power transformer protection.

Nice comparison sheets there CJ!
