Oh boy, here's some typical guitarist 'tonemeister-speak':

As noted the only repair, the change of the power switch, was sanctioned by Ken Fischer.  Believe me when I say that I begged him to change it for me, but he said it would be ridiculous to send an the DLM 6 thousand miles from Hawaii to New Jersey and back just to repair a power switch.

The Response Amplifier:  well of course, it's prototype serial #1.  And dang-it someone needs to buy it.

There's a local guy who runs a 7" record label, has done about 20 issues so far, all in pressings around 100 in size.  I've never heard of a single band.  His product is all promoted to the new vinyl fetish crowd, and they buy him out immediately.  Early works trade in the $150-200 range on ebay now.  Manufactured scarcity.

You should look at the world of high end guitar pedals too....

No one has mentioned the Dumbles yet?
50K and you have to sign a non-disclosure agreement
it's a good business because EVERYONE knows it can't possibly  be that good, so
you can get just as close by buying a 500.00  pedal instead and have money left over
for magic parts , that's the secret of magic, you can make different special  pedals sound
exactly like a whole amp capturing the essence simply by conjuring the name! try it !

the dumble thing is that each amp is made for the player.  I have heard what dumble does is when he does an amp he will do final tweaks with the buyer. He will have the buyer play the same thing over and over and over again while swapping components to match  the best sonics based on how the buyer plays.    Does it make a difference? I'm sure it does but as to how much a difference, I can't say.

There is some service there, I get that, But
How much better can a 75.00 chicken dinner be over a 25.00 chicken dinner
at some point it has to top off before passing the point of diminishing returns.
Carlton stopped using his [ maybe he cashed in ? ]

Then you turn the knob up or down one step all his efforts are wasted.

I have been playing guitar all my life. And the way I see it is just like the way late Bernard Edwards saw it. It's been a long time so I don't exactly remember it word by word but it was something in the line of this. When he was asked in a guitar geeks magazine interview what strings he  was using, his reply was
"whatever those Fender basses come with".

Well, exactly. Especially if he designs the amp to be played at a particular (loud) level. That might've worked back in the 60s when amps had to be big because the PA wasn't carrying guitar sounds. Now, with modern PAs, that kind of stage volume gets you kicked out of the band.

I think Jonathan may value his own artistic abilities more then the rest of us. ;)

I have dumble schmatics 8) I can't say there is anything in there that is special but I can say the way he puts them together and so forth has build up a rep that can allow to be charging that much and there guys who are willing to pay the price for them. Maybe not being available to everyone helps in the mystique of it all and the bottom price tag.  Not to mention how he pots everything in epoxy

Not sure how the ceriatone " dumbles " sound or are doing sales wise ,
most dumble's are variation's of fenders ? [ boogie style ? ]
I have an old grove tubes STP  preamp / amp like a hot rodded deluxe , I think it sounds good
in a fender way, not much more than a deluxe
there's dumble gut shots/pix on the interweb  that don't look as precision as a Hiwatt
[ but they have wood boards for the preamp caps & resisters ]
with Aural memory being what it isn't , I'd think playing back the same recorded riff would be more " scientific "
than having the guy continuosly play it
