I've just got a brand new, still in the original packaging Altec 1612b (you read right).  First question is regarding powering up a vintage yet un-used NOS unit.  I've heard this could actually be detrimental to have no power run through an older unit.  Any suggestions?

Secondly, assuming it don't blow up ;-), I'm considering plugging in a Peerless 4665 into the mic pre octal on the back.  However, never read a word on anyone doing this.  Not sure if it's even feasible?
It seems like it may work but it's a pretty radical step-up in impedance.

Thank you, in advance for any wisdom on these topics!

You really do not want to do this. A 4665 is a $1000,00 input transformer. If you plug it in a mic pre octal socket, you might run DC through it.
