Hi,
I was showing a friend one of my DIY tube mic PSU builds last night and he asked "what happens if you hook this up to a preamp or mixer with 48vDC phantom power switched on?"

I was about to say "nothing" but then I realized I hadn't thought about it very much because it hadn't occurred to me that someone would plug in a tube mic PSU without confirming that there was no phantom power coming from the next stage.

Will phantom power simply exist on the lines without effect or is there something to consider?

Thank you.

Schematic of what you built?

In general, and in G7 in particular, phantom will only see the transformer secondary with nowhere to return to ground, so no current will flow.

net result=null

Exactly like connecting a dynamic mic to phantom power.

Unless you do some fancy ground-referenced stuff after your transformer.
