Hey Guys! This is my first post here.  I've lurked and learned quite a bit from you guys. So, Thanks!

I recently bought a shure Beta 87a on Craigslist for $50. The guy said it worked fine. It didn't. Output was low and very noisy. figuring it was worth Shure's repair price, I sent it in for pro repair.  Shure wrote back to inform me that the mic is a counterfeit 87a :-\ .  Oh Craigslist... when will I learn?  Shure sent the mic back.  Now it's just sitting on my desk, laughing at me.

Any ways, the body of the microphone is well built and I'm the kind of guy who likes to tinker. So I'm wondering,  are there any capsules/basic circuits you guys could suggest to replace the guts of my counterfeit Beta 87a with something usable? Ideally a directional mic for stage/vocal  use. But I'm totally open to ideas....  Should I just trash it?
Thanks for your time everybody!
