Mine just has the blue light on all the time. Whether the DC cable is plugged in or just the FW cable, the light is solid blue and won't be detected by my FW card. Seems like lots of posts about failing caps, resistors, and diodes in this thing. I don't see anything obviously burnt though.

I'm just sorting through all the posts now to see what the most likely culprit is. This pic pops up in every thread. http://cdn.head-fi.org/b/ba/ba79f989_howIfixedmypresonusfirebox.jpeg

Originally found here. Time to start measuring some things! As far as I can tell the PSU section SEEMS fine, but I can't rule it out.

Any ideas on where to start out guys?

Just about had a heart attack when my Firepod wouldn't get recognized for a few minutes. Luckily that's up and running now so that rules out my FW cable and FW card.  :)

Speaking with 12afael it must be the FW chip or another chip in the box. I'll contact Presonus and see what they say. Anyone else repair these? Could make a deal with trading my Firepod that still works amazing, use it everyday. Just don't have room for it at the new condo. Not set of Presonus either. USB interface could work too.

Good thing I only lost $50 on it and a box of 80s car audio.

the firewire driver could be one of those

Try to find a crack on the IC or any sign of fumes, sometimes they show the fail easily. The input and output of that chip have 2x56ohms resistors (balanced). Those usually die together with the FW chip.  (http://www.ti.com/lit/ds/symlink/tsb41ab2.pdf page17)

Whoa thanks so much! That's a huge lead for me! I will check it out tonight.

Otherwise I contacted Presonus and see what they say.

Cheers man!

So the vendor admitted fault and knew the unit didn't work. So I received an M-Audio Firewire 410 in replacement.

I was able to keep the breakout cable and I would love to offer it to 12afael as I've already reached out to to offer to ship it to him.

Thanks so much for all the info this board has offered me. I went from total noob to being able to repair most electronics, minus small smd chips of course. Thanks to all for all the info this board has given me!! :)
