someone posted an electrolytic capacitor photo where it was like a Russian doll thing going on. There was the outside of the cap  with one value on it. it was  removed from the leads and base  and inside  attached to the leads and base was a smaller complete cap of I think the same value or possible a different value. The cap originated from asia.

Anyone? Buler? Buler?

Jeez, they couldn't even use a cap of the same value...

Anyone puts a capacitance meter on it would instantly know something was up.

And seriously? A Rubycon? I'd have expect some Sanwung or something...

I'm not sure I get the point, you couldn't possibly make a profit by making those things the few cents in difference would be eaten up in labor and extra work/parts...is it just to trick wannabe backwards engineers?

Thats a lot of work for little result.

There's a lot of fake caps floating around,
specially the Radial caps.

Be careful with Asian Suppliers on Ebay, etc
And suspect when you find a supplier that sells caps of a quality brand for a cheap price

The fake could make a lot of sense if you wanted some HIFI-unit to look original after a repair. In which case hopefully an EE would have optimized part parameter values.

Yes,
not good thinking you have a 500V Cap  when in reality it's only 200V!

You are still protected by the external shield  8)

LOLOLOL
Yeah

It can happen also that when the internal capacitor blows the external shield is projected like a bullet!
