Not totally DIY, but the classic Dynakit Stereo 70 is available again: http://www.dynakitparts.com/ST-70-KIT

I got my ST-35 from Kevin at Dynakitparts, super friendly guy and the build was straight forward.

http://www.dynakitparts.com/dynakit-products/amplifier-kits/st35k-240-kit

17'5 watts per channel is more than enough to drive 86dB/w/m speakers and fill a large living room

I built my ST70 in 1968 and it's still in use driving the midrange drivers (JBL2420) in my tri-amped JBL 4333s
I only upgraded the PSU.  This amp sounds GREAT. :) :)

Here is another source for all things Dynaco

http://triodeelectronics.com/st70buildkit.html

And a nice .pdf

http://www.the-planet.org/gkaufman/pdf/transformer.pdf

Have fun..
