Putting out an inquiry for a client who purchased a new power supply for their SSL 4048 E from GRS, which as yet to successfully work. The supply initially smoked upon first turn on, was returned for repair, second attempt at use toasted logic circuits in the console and voltage readings show a serious problem in the logic power.
It had not been possible to make any arrangements with them to return the supply a second time for repair.
It has been several months since trying to get support from GRS, no one from the company responds and there has been one disaster after another with attempts for support from one after another persons who were attempting to provide support as a favor to the company while they are ? out of the country? and not reachable by any means.
No service documentation was provided with the supply and none has been obtainable. It appears to have a set of switch mode supplies inside, but there is a plethora of other fabricated units involved and the internal wiring will require many hours of frustration to suss out as it is all over the place and no wiring ID system is employed.
If it were possible to get at least an internal wiring diagram I could probably figure out the problem and fix it...

Help :-X

I don't know what the GRS supply costs, but the Atomic Instrument supply is worth every penny.  (http://www.atomicinstrument.com/)
If you can get a refund on the GRS I would wholeheartedly recommend getting the Atomic.  I am in no way related to the company but we have one on our SSL and it is flawless.

Yeah, the Atomic is twice the price ( but I guess once again you get what you pay for...)
Good to hear a non-promotional experience with that one.
Anyone seen a GRS working on an SSL?
It was implied that the GRS was linear, but after looking inside I think that is not possible.
It does still beg belief that these are clean enough without the kind of filtering that is on a 9k...

And this is one of many reasons I wholeheartedly endorse Atomic Instrument supplies.  Great to see you here, Norman!  The plasma supply for Studio G has been working flawlessly :)

I was a studio owner for many years, I know the cost all too well. I can feel the pain
from Michigan if this thing took out logic in the desk! If someone knows the studio
owner have them contact me, I can even send them a loaner supply to keep the
financial ruin to a minimum! N

Does anybody know what studio this is so I can reach out to them and help with
their issues? What a nightmare! N

Atomic Instrument saved the day! We rebuilt the unit with quality parts and
all has been well ever since.
