V1 second stage has some stuff going on, gain stays the same during OD switching, but tone does not,  cap is used in cathode to kill gain with degen in combo with voltage division,

net effect: OD channel has less bass during this transistion,

OD in green, normal channel route in blue,

hey John, did you work on 5150 ?
No,, I'm not a guitar guy, but at the time of the 5150 I was managing the mixer engineering group. We shared a common lab space with the guitar amp group.  The 5150 was designed by an old friend James Brown***  http://www.amptweaker.com/page/About-James-1.aspx, with input from Eddie, not literally circuit design input, but more this (gain), less that etc. IIRC Eddie even tweaked aspects of the cabinet design. Eddie visited Peavey in Meridian and James flew out to spend time at Eddie's studio, while the 5150 was at prototype stage.

Today James runs a successful guitar pedal company.  http://www.amptweaker.com/default.aspx

PS: In Jame's bio he mentions designing the "Dirty Dog" pedal while at Peavey. What he didn't mention is the Dirty Dogs was the name of the cover band he played in around town. In my experience the best amp design engineers were also skilled players
