I'm considering a Thiersch blue capsule build with some sort of non-tube amplifier. Maybe schoeps circuit or a neumann circuit clone.  Has anyone got great results with this type of thing or is it a risk?

Isn't that some sort of blasphemy? ;D A "vintage" capsule with sand in the electronics? Heathen!..

Cue the villagers with torches & pitchforks... :D

Yup, here it is:

The headbasket is a little cramped, though.
I would use a bigger one.
The modern M930 (which has a Mylar/polyester capsule BTW) has this small basket, as well. The M1030 is basically the same microphone but has a bigger basket. The latter sounds so much nicer to my ears.

The SYT-5 body has a good size and shape basket IMO. Plus plenty of room for electronics.
Or you could use an M49 style body.  :p Some members offer these, but the development has been taking some time. Ben Sneesby is working on one for this community now, too. I expect him to be quicker.

Regarding the MT71S schematic I think I remember the late Oliver Archut wasn't too fond of it.
But not everyone agreed.
Older ones (M70 etc.) had a transformer (preferred by many), but also GDR parts that some will have mixed feelings about.

If you want to use a circuit with a transformer and sand just combine the M7 with the circuit of one channel from the USM69.
This is basically a U87 variant without the HF shelf.  ;)
Tranny could be a Haufe T14/1.

The M71s is not bad - don't believe whats spread around the web or the hearsay.
Try for yourself. I know a lot of people who favor it to a U87...
