XVLK, I agree but, anyway, what any half decent recordist should do nonetheless is playback whatever they've recorded on decent monitors rather than headphones. That should give you quite an accurate idea as to what the mic actually sounds like. In any case, as accurate you'll ever get, since the rest of whatever you record, you will measure as per the sound coming out of your monitors.

Fito... i think what happened her is:

you said
just use your ears

which in another language may translate into

"use ONLY your ears"

which would infer .... that no room acoustics or monitor system or machines to measure...would be included....
 ....only your ears....

this is where the headphone reference came from ... i beleive...
after all headphones are: speakers for..."ONLY your ears"

i really love to hear xvlk's comments..which is sometimes difficult for everyone involved...
xvlk I know our stupid american language can be confusing sometimes..

sorry for confusion xvlt...

xvlk what is you primary language?
I wish we could find a website for translation...

your english is good ...but our language can be confusing...once again sorry for this...
as always i look forward to your comments....
OH BTW...xvlk will you please see the thread for ribbon ratio? please?

primary:
Czech
and secondary:
none. I believe, that human brain is limited and for me is
unbelievable that someone can be multilngual {polyglot}

Website for translation... hahaha. Algoritmic translation from
English to the Czech is like a joke. Impossible.
More scholary:
Algoritmic translations enlarges entropy too much.

reading your quote is what really made it funny....

"Adjust R116 for least smoke"

I though "Adjust Remarks for least smoke"

haha lol

This quote is actually from one of my Electronics Instructors from High school.
He used to say in the old Marconi Tube type TV service manuals the alignment instructions read: "Adjust for least smoke". Seems to apply to most adjustments...

Hi all, does anyone have access to this paper that PRR so graciously posted so many years ago? dead link....
Thanx

Werner's paper Electrical Loading of Mics shows "walleys".

Journal Of The Audio Engineering Society
October 1955, Volume 3, Number 4
On Electrical Loading of Microphones
Richard E. Werner
Radio Corporation of America, Camden, New Jersey

"The series of lesser resonances at odd multiples of the fundamental are due to higher modes of vibration in the ribbon and are perfectly normal in a ribbon microphone. In high-quality ribbon microphones these higher-order modes are of a minor nature and do not detract from the excellent transient response and low distortion which are recognized as the outstanding attributes of the ribbon microphone. It is apparent, however, that these resonances complicate considerably the mathematical expression for the microphone's output impedance."

As far as I can figure, Olson was still hanging around RCA at the time this was published.
