Hello,

Do you know anything about the B512 amp cards? I have one of these and I wonder if I can use it as a temporary replacement for a non-working 440 in a 33609 comp.

The 512 looks very similar to the 440, some of the transistors are different though.

Edit: How about the 441 card? A friend of mine has one of these that I could get.

(or maybe someone has a 440 for sale - prefer Europe since I need it pretty much now...)

Thanks in advance,

Gunnar

Hi Gunnar
the 512 was specced by the BBC because they hated the way the 440 didn't recover quickly to overload. The 512 is much better, and is specced to have a better distortion figure over a certain lavel range than the 440.
It's like 1073's versus other Neve class A eq - some numbers are hip, and some are not. There's often limited basis for preferences. Enjoy the 512!
On a 440, always carefully check the large transistor pins for dry joints, and the tantalum capacitor for problems
Don't bother with a 441- it was for driving console loudspeakers etc.!

Regards.
Blakeyboy.
