I'm am amateur drummer who has started playing with microphones. I'm using a Yamaha MG10XU with three condensers and an SM57.

I'd like to dabble in multi track recording but have limited time and need to do so at the moment. I'm mostly enjoying listening to the kit live through the mics and IEMs with a touch of reverb and EQ.

I'd like to add four more preamps/channels for tom mics but not sure what the best approach is. I've considered the following:
- add a second, small, inexpensive/used mixer and patch into the 5/6 line inputs.
- upgrade to a mixer/interface like a Tascam Model 12
- upgrade to a 8 channel interface like a Focusrite Scarlett.

With the last option, would an interface allow me to monitor with reverb/EQ without delay? I really enjoy that aspect of my current setup but more EQ control wouldn't hurt.

Haven't nailed down a budget yet but definitely want to keep it well under $1k.

Any guidance greatly appreciated!
