Trying to acquire a M7 capsule and looks like the $300+ capsule makers are all looking at many weeks for a capsule to ship. At least the ones that actually replied are saying so.

Looking for opinions on the 3U Audio and Maiku M7.

@fsalter
That was my first choice.
They’re out of stock and no reply via email.
There must be a secret handshake to purchase one. Ha ha

3u audio m7 is really nice. Smoother than thiersch blue and very balanced. It has a smoky vintage quality but doesn’t lack in presence or detail. It’s a bargain
Thanks.
Anyone know the background to Guosheng’s capsules? Which parts/skinned in China? Which factory? QC? Etc…

I’ll send an email to 3U Audio for a quote.

Everything is made in China. He is very experienced though and he is well respected as he is in this business many many years.

The Maiko capsules are very good in general. I know Chris at barbaric likes them and was using 3U Audio ones for his "bargain capsules", but the Maiko took over from them. Ask his advice, he's a great guy. tell him Kane says hi.

Didn't knew Maiku has an M7 capsule? I don't see any reference on their website..? Their K47 is a very good sounding recreation, to my ears at least.
I can also vouch for 3U's M7, I have 2, very sweet souding capsules, altough I'm yet to try others

Yeah, my mistake. I meant Maiku K47.
Buying good capsules are not as easy as I had originally thought. They’re just not as readily available as I once thought.

Kind of off topic but I too have noticed that capsule manufacturers are not responding to emails. Seemed kind of odd to pass up business but they must be very busy with what they already sold.

So for me, the question is how do the Maiku and 3U Audio compare to the Theirsch, Heiserman, Beesneez, $300+ capsules?

I get that the answer to the question will vary by a person’s taste. However, in overall quality, can some money saved by building the whole or a part of the capsule in China hinder the quality by 30% in line with the cost savings?

At the end of the day, I need a capsule. And though I believe in paying for quality, I don’t want to pay for hype either.

As a young engineer, I had an opportunity to buy a Manley Ref Gold for an amazing price and purchased it. There was a lot of hype around this mic and the Ref Cardiod around that time. I could never get that mic to sound great on most people. Ended up selling it and getting additional gear and such and I’ve never regretted it.

The 3u audio m7 is right up there with the mid priced capsules ( beesneez, thiersch etc). All those people build a quality product and know what they are doing…but have slightly different taste and aesthetic. It’s up to your taste to choose a product…and that’s the hard part. My personal opinion is that the best capsule as of now for k47 is the Neumann ( k47, k49, k49fet). It’s expensive and rare now but it does that 3D mid thing better than anyone.
Now the rest are different shades within the same family.
Heiserman k47 is more modern sounding and brighter, beesneez and maiku are generally in the darker side and less aggressive.
Remember that a mic is a system…a synergy of parts. Maybe in a u47 with ef800 tube a heiserman capsule might offset the “lack” of highs of the 800 compared to a vf14 and bring you actually closer to the original sound.

Thank you. That helps a lot! This will go into my Miktek CV4 with EF800 and BV8 style transformer.
