My pre-amp passes audio but only when the potentiometer is close to or at max.
After inspecting the unit, I notice what looks like charring on the negative end of
the two larger (2200 uf 50V) capacitors. See photo
I am having a difficult time finding this specific cap: 2200 uf 50 V Ace Japan manufacturer.
Does anyone know where I can find these or know what I can use as a substitute?

Mouser Tech Support recommended CDE / Illinois Capacitor:

Will the CDE cap work? I prefer to swap with the same manufacturer
but will be open to others if someone can confirm that it will work.

Any input would be greatly appreciated!

P.S. I did test the potentiometers with my multi-meter and
do not think they are the issue

As long as the dimensions of the CDE cap fit your board, there shouldn't be any problem at all using them. Replacing the caps may or may not solve your problem, but it's probably a good idea regardless.

I would say that "charring" is from when the lead wire was spot welded to the can, and nothing to do with the
cap being bad.
Also it looks like those caps are for the power supply So if it sounds fine when the pot is turned up, again it is very
unlikely to be those at fault.

Agreed. Proper troubleshooting methods must be used here.

I totally agree with Abbey and Walrus. I would say that replacing those caps would be a waste of time and money. We can probably help you sort this if you tell us what mic you are plugging into your pre-amp and what the pre-amp output connects to.
Also, do you get the same issue on both channels?
