Lynx Aurora 16, or 8 if you don't need that many converter channels, will get you professional quality conversion. Both models can be switched to All in or All out, doubling you inputs or outputs at the cost of the.

All 3 models accept the same connectivity expansion cards so you can decide how you'd like to connect. We have an Aurora16 in our Dante network via the LT-Dante expansion.

Or go with RME. It's only a small step down in terms of how it sounds (not enough to really matter to most people) and has the added bonus of endless product support.

I'm looking for a soundcard not a standalone converter,
please read first post, it explains exactly what I'm looking for
The Lynx has tons of interface options so it's a legit "sound card" in that sense. You could option it with Dante, USB, Thunderbolt, ADAT, ProTools...Pretty much anything.

RME Digiface USB (around 350€ incl. VAT new) + a 2nd hand ADAT box of choice?

I use a bunch of Fostex VC-8s. Old, 16 bit, RCA IO, consumer level, but dirt cheap.
And 4 Behringer ADA8000s, of course these have mic pres, but these can easily be removed, as it's one analog board. In fact, I've considered that a few times, but I'm too lazy...

Flexible, expandable, relatively small. RME drivers, TotalMix and DigiCheck, affordable.

Of course, a 2nd hand FF400 would even be cheaper. And it's interesting to have the mic pres with digital gain control for measurement purposes. These are going between 200 and 250€ lately. But they sell very fast, so jump on it if you see one.

Exactly. That's what I was trying to get across. If he just wants and actual card. I still have one of the AES16e PCIe cards we were using before switching over to Dante.

The FF400 has the right size physically, as this is for live sound use and I need something small to carry around when travelling in my trolley. It’s also a good form factor to fit inside the trolley.
I don’t need any mic pres so I would prefer something as simple as possible with just TRS line ins without any input gain control, but the size and the price makes the FF400 unbeatable for what I need

thank you all

RME Multiface is pretty small, 8×8 line, ADAT, uses TotalMix FX DSP like all their other devices, and should be pretty affordable because these 20yr old YouTube University graduates all use MacBooks with no slots for FW PCIe card expansion to connect them.

RME multiface seems a good option for sure, same size as the the FF400, no mic preamps which is good.

I don’t care for ADAT or any FX DSP.

just need line ins and line outs

It's even smaller than the FF400...

The FF400 is 9,5" wide or 258 (incl. rack ears) x 44 x 155 mm. Half rack.
The Digiface USB is 128 x 22 x 55 mm. About half the size.

I second this. I have been using an RME Digiface for years with Mytek Stereo96, Apogee AD/DA16X, and Lucid 88192 converters.

You need an additional interface card (cardbus, expresscard, PCI or PCIe) with the Multiface, no USB interface available.

I would pick up a Focusrite Scarlett 18i20 3rd Gen and forget the mic amps. The diy solution is the best available.
