Returning to the original idea - I'm still amazed that the M49/U67 beveled grille style hasn't become the defacto standard for all LDCs; it's clearly superior to a cylidrcal grille, yet many mics still made that way - pure marketing due to the legendary status of the U47?
Plenty of mics are using different but similar grilles to Neumann's sloped ones, Neumann has a trademark on their specific design or something which is why we see stuff like the rounded tops on stuff like the WA-87 R2 and a lot of MXL mics.
