im researching this thing right now because i'm looking to get a replacement capsule. so far from 3u audio, micandmod and dachman audio all feature the exact same build capsules for certain models. down to the same wire color. i would say all sourced from the same manufacturer. though each site says something very different, one will say american sputtered gold mylar the other says german made mylar. im trying to sift through, to find the origin of the capsule, if i find its chinese, im passing. may have to bite the bullet pay the extra and order a peluso capsule.

You didn't provide the link of the European site you talked about.

This thread is about a Chinese brand, 3U Audio, if you read the thread you will see it's full of compliments towards 3U Audio/Guosheng work, so saying that a capsule is Chinese that can be a pretty good thing or bad depending on the source.
797 Audio and 3U Audio, are Chinese, but it's well accepted they make great capsules.

As for Mic and Mod, you can be sure they use Chinese source capsules and components, like transformers and bodies.
Dachman I dont know

As for Peluso, I think their capsules are also made with Chinese sourced parts.

Saying this, this thread is about 3U Audio M7 capsule, so maybe lets not get too far from the topic

so this capsule is chinese origin?
it looks identical to one on a european site that says its made from german mylar.
Many far-east guitar manufacturers advertise having "canadian maple" necks. It's often true.
It's quite possible this mic maker imports its mylar film from Germany. It doesn't mean the whole capsule is of German origin.

there are better threads for this. PM me if you want more info on the market.

so would you say likely, that the assembly of the capsule happens locally, and is not imported from china as a whole unit?

for Mic and Mod for sure the whole capsule is imported from China.
Peluso might assemble a capsule with some Chinese imported parts

but let’s not move from the topic of this thread
If you want do a separate thread on that subject

I have a 3U audio M7 in one of my Gyraf G7’s. It’s an excellent.capsule. I have purchased other Capsules and mic transformers from 3U, very high quality, allways responds to emails within a day and was very impressed with the shipping speed.

I'm no expert but I believe "German" mylar probably refers to mylar originally manufactured by Hoechst AG, who co-developed mylar along with DuPont in the US and Imperial in the U.K. back in the 50s and was referred to as "German Mylar" in order to differentiate it at the time from the mylar made by Dupont or Imperial or whomever makes it now.

It could be for sure the origin of the term "German Mylar".
But nowadays when you see "German Mylar" written in a description of a capsule it's almost always a company that sources capsules from China and uses the "German Mylar" term as a marketing gimmick

There's a lot of "German Mylar's" out there selling capsules

Can someone said about this capsule. if this capsule is straight enough for back and front to do an inverse for fig8 and mid/side recording blumline.

I would imagine it works great for Mid/Side. Mine would anyway. The way I listened was in omni with a MK47. Both sides were incredibly close. I picked one for the front that was maybe a tiny tiny tiny bit more rolled off (maybe) but it was more a feeling, and I could have picked either. By comparison, Heiserman HK47 and Theirsch blue M7 were less matched than the 3U . . . Don't quote me on that, just what my ears heard on these three single specimens.

the 3u m7 does indeed have impressive quality control and is an impressive capsule overall. nuts that they're cutting the gap into the backplate and gluing the diaphragm down at that volume

I’m looking forward to know how the 3U M7 sounds compared to your Flat K47, soliloqueen. First half of next year maybe, in a Church 47 -inspired mic.
The M7 has a less extended top end that sounds better on acoustic instruments I think. The flat k47 is very flat. I think it is too flat for some sources personally. It's something I would fix if I ever did a V2.
