once I receive my ordered ST8456 to LL1538 adapter PCB they should fit in all projects using LL1538

Sorry If i missed it , but you like them better than
the 1538 [ or xl version ]
generally speaking , how do they compare ?

well, I really like the price better than what I would have to pay for the LL1538 (http://www.canford.co.uk/Products/23-103_LUNDAHL-LL1538-TRANSFORMER-Analogue-audio-PCB-microphone-input)
you know, if Kubi finds a replacement it will work very well ;)
and Bo Hansen was surely surprised about the small difference in his DI Box (http://www.groupdiy.com/index.php?topic=36569.msg482719#msg482719)

btw, I uploaded the datasheet (http://www.silentarts.de/DIY/sales/ST8456_Data.pdf)

more than half of the stock sold in 3 days - I thought it will last the rest of the year, and initially only wanted to order 20 pieces.

Hi Volker , are you planing to stock NTL1 (ie:169_500 project) ??  :) If yes , rough idea of the price??
I guess I would need to have at least the same price Thomann has (cheaper than canford or farnell) ...
need to phone for the new prices, Neutrik decided to higher all prices 1st of may (my last order was before)
if more people are interested in NTL1 transformers post your interest, I would like to have an idea of the quantity.

I'd probably be in for a pair.  They're hard to find in the US.
it is not a huge quantity.

what I can do (for an order of 25 pieces) is EUR 40 excl. VAT (note: the Thomann price is incl. VAT)
plus shipping :o
lead time at the moment: 5 weeks once I ordered

make sure no "adapter PCB pin" has contact to the Haufe metal case.
cut them short, or put some tape on top before soldering the Haufe in.

PayPal might be impossible in the near future

like many (US) companies they deleted Wikileaks (either the servers or the DNS service)
if this is true I will not use PayPal "service" anymore, and delete my account

[this will delete this thread here too, since I can't donate to prodigy either without the account]
however, I'm not fine with internet war attacks against free speech

sadly the german press releases are true.

try it out:
http://213.251.145.96/support.html
(doesn't need any DNS server 8))
try the paypal donation button ...

all pending (paypal related) payments have to be done in the next 24 hours,
I will delete my paypal account tomorrow 4pm MEZ.

I know this decision is a stopper for all my customers outside the EU / SWIFT - IBAN bank transfer countries.
sorry for this.

just wanna say I understand and applaud this decision, even if wikileaks actions aren't to everyone's taste, we can't have paypal (and amazon) deciding on world politics. This debacle shows that we might have given too much control to paypal already, shouldn't there at least be ONE alternative way for payments?

(Obviously I will keep paying Volker for his gummibears and pcbs as usual, in person and with marbles  :P )

for sure they are not to everyone's taste, it even is not 100% mine - but they don't release lies, only existing documents.

I don't expect they decided, they have been forced by governments (not the market) to do this.
(or have been afraid, I don't know)

(Obviously I will keep paying Volker for his gummibears and pcbs as usual, in person and with marbles  :P )
always the better choice ;D

your decision, nothing wrong with it.
had to pay EUR 35,- for an order from Collin I paid by bank wire transfer, since the credit card didn't work.

I know I will loose customers with this decision, but since I don't do this for my living I can live with it.

this should probably move to the brewery, but I am very worried about the decisions of corporations and blame them for their poor decisions in matters like this, because they are not elected by the people. There is a strong precedent in the USA to protect the freedom of the press (i.e. wikileaks) - while the person doing the leaking is not protected and can be prosecuted. When corporations have the power to make decisions about freedom of speech or press, it is not good.

Volker

I have heard good things about some of the more popular E-Gold exchangers. Anyway it might be worth looking into.
40-45USD per wire from US is way too high. Paypal 4% seems out of control for what they are doing.
Some of the gold exchangers don't charge anything. Maybe someone else with experience will add comments?

It's not only the 4% , but the double gouge on exchange rates
and other little added fees [ are they paying people not to compete ? ]

your RK255 (wired 1:1) should work too, might be even a touch better.

while I haven't tested it personally it is my first choice for my - yet to build - D-LA2A mastering version.

I'm searching for a way to avoid PayPal completly!
sadly not an easy task.
however, if you are in France, just use IBAN / SWIFT EUR bank wire transfer.
no costs for you (& me), and you have the advantage of the 2% discount I will give you.

btw, not many ST8458 left - but I ordered the next 50pcs today :D

looking into xe trade may bear fruit.  if funds are sent via EFT/ACH to xe by the account holder (me) and again from xe to the end recipient (you!), it's apparently free.  if i could afford my eventual order at the present time, i'd happily submit myself for experimentation.

Hat's off to you!

Apparently wikileaks is not ok, but the KKK is.

not sure if you know this ,
but french bank are charging a few euros for IBAN transfer,
like 3 or 4 euros,
so for payment under 80-100 euros, that's 5 to 10% fee !  :o :o :o :o
But as a great philosopher said once,

Francois, do you have to pay this for bank wire transfers inside France too?

Regulation (EC) No 2560/2001 of the European Parliament and of the Council of 19 December 2001 on cross-border payments in euro. (http://europa.eu/legislation_summaries/consumers/protection_of_consumers/l33223_en.htm)

Quote
This Regulation is designed to put charges for cross-border payments in euros on the same footing as those for payments in that currency within a Member State.

For anyone outside of EU, the easy solution would be a money order sent as a registered letter. Takes less than a week for a letter to get anywhere in the world from North America.

happy new year

some good and some bad news for 2011:
Deutsche Post to reduce prices of international postal products on 1 January 2011 (http://www.dp-dhl.com/en/media_relations/press_releases/2010/deutsche_post_to_reduce_prices_international_postal_products.html)

international registered letters are cheaper now,
with the downside of higher prices for european letters.

for registered letters outside germany we now have:
up to 500g: EUR 5,50
up to 1000g: EUR 9,05
up to 2000g: EUR 18,95

Do you have any of the "HWBP36-rev01" PCB's?
(Bypass PCBs for the PM670)
... a new revision would be fine too, if there is one.

I could use at least 2 of them, maybe 6... please let me know.

Also, is there a layout or part placement/list for them anywhere?

Thanks,

About my build... I could probably tweak it a little more but it's been running fine & works well. I really like it.
I still have the One tube pulled in the SC... that appears to have helped others out as well with similar problems which is the cool part. I think everyone thought I was nuts way back when... thank GOD that's over. 8)

Ooh, I hope 2 jensamp kits with transformers make it to december.. sadly won't be able to spring before that :/

we will see. the input transformers are not a problem, I always have them in stock.
the supply for the output makes me an headache.

however, Haufe will still do it, but with EUR 52 for a one up and EUR 48,05 for 50 pieces it doesn't make sense for me to order, pay and stock them (prices excl. VAT and shipping)

since Michaela asked I already told here to be prepared for one off orders ;D
(and there is always the Lundahl option)

what are the jensamp kits like??? I have four of the VP25's from classicapi, and I producer metal and heavy rock bands. are these api rack compatible or do they need the silent arts high voltage rack to function?

Jensamps are GDIY-511 EXCLUSIVE
they need +/-24V (and+48V)

they are NOT API compatible :)

I'd assume a *75 module input or output trafos wouldn't be ok, right? It would actually feel a bit weird to vandalize such a nice amp too... but maybe?

If you have any V475-2 output iron save it 8)
I have nearly finished a V476-51X.
But Haufe stopped me working at it.
The sales woman there says they can't find any info / they can't do the transformers again.
A Neumann V475-2 (or A) there is at least the same output transformer.

Anyway, I'm sure Michaela from Haufe is wrong, I need to speak to some older guys ;D

No - I prefer bank transfer and keep track on this.
All fine.
Signal to noise Ratio without payments is always high with orders from the US (sorry, I have to say this).

if there are any available ....

What is current status for iron availability ?

I'm in need of a PSU with -18, +18, Fixed and 48V. Are you planning on designing such a PSU as well, or would you recommend to buy one FP48PSU and one POSPSU and swap the 317 for a 337 (I think this would be possible, right?)?

AC/DC
might be an option.
however, changing the LM317 to a LM337 will result in smoke.

if you have two separated secondaries for the FP48PSU / POSPSU it should work.

Hi, I haven't received my pair of jensamp kits yet, are they on their way?  got a tracking number? thanks...
Shipped 12.08.2011
german post tracking says:
Quote
Sendungsnummer: RT012004225DE
Die Sendung wurde am 13.08.2011 im internationalen Logistikzentrum Frankfurt zur Weiterbeförderung nach Australien übergeben
so it arrived one day later at Frankfurt (airport) to go to australia.
if some australien post took it off it will have a changed number now, which I can't see anymore.
while four to six weeks are getting normal I will (try to) phone them tomorrow morning.

German post is getting worser and worser, at least for private customers.
(and they are still not interested giving me a customer number).

my private BOM is so old it wouldn't help (most parts with part numbers pre RoHS)
however, there are a few more up to date BOMs from members building it in the support threat.

the overall cost can vary very much depending on the T4Bs, transformers and case / frontpanel.
I would say everything between EUR 500 up to EUR 1500.

Boards and transformers have arrived! Thank you. Everything looks great! I just have a few questions about the FP48PSU. Should I use 1N4004 for ALL the diodes, or are there a few different ones? For the electrolytics I was thinking 50v for the 1000uf, 100v for the 100uf, and 63v for the 10uf. Finally, what should I use for the 2W in R2 & R4? Thanks and i'm sorry to even bother you with these questions in the first place. If any of the voltages for the lytics are off please let me know. Later.

Later.

- 1N4004 are fine for all diodes
- 50V for all electrolytic are fine
- for 2W use 47R
 :)

Can the Haufe ST8456 be used with a 1:2.5 ratio?

Would need this to use it with a JLM Audio Baby Animal and the 50K pots I already got.

I only sell Haufe ST8456, but with the adapter PCB they can be used as a substitute for any project with LL1538 footprints.

Can the Haufe ST8456 be used with a 1:2.5 ratio?
sure, it is 1+1:5 8)

Hi Volker,

I was only going to do one of these Jensamp's but the feedback from others sound great and the build looks fairly easy so two will come in handy. I'm going to experiment with other tx's on the second one cause I've got a few laying around needing some work.

Can I order the following items-
1x Jensamp-51X [rev03] Basic Kit
1x Jensamp-51X Parts Kit
1x Jensamp-51X [rev02] PCB
1x NOS ASY26 (only one needed per board?)
2x 36 Pin Card Edge Connector

Email on it's way soon.

Thanks,
Andrew

Any reason it would be unwise to use a wire jumper in place of the 47 ohm, 2w resistor? It looks like this just connects the 48v voltage doubler to the 24v rail, yes? The regulator self limits so a resistor acting as a fuse is unnecessary. Are you protecting for start up current?

The 2W resistor(s) don't have any fuse function.
It just drops down the voltage a little bit.
No problem using a wire jumper instead.

Perhaps i missed it, i have been looking around to find where people are getting these awesome D-LA2A cases/faceplates.  Are there any floating around?  I JUST bought a hairball 1176 kit (so it will be a while before i get into the DLA2A), and i will be getting into a DLA2A OR a Gssl next..  whichever i can more easily be sourced.

There's no voltage doubler for the 48v output, correct?

Last call for the OV560 kits.

I'm in contact with a distributor for finished units, if we find an agreement this would stop any OV560 supplied from me directly (incl. DIY versions)

Transformers too expensive?  :o

at least the input for the upcoming PMV70X is the same ;D
and the output isn't doable new anymore ...

Post by: [silent:arts] on December 07, 2012, 06:44:07 AM
Hi Greg,

compared to other projects it is a bit pricey, I know.
this is mainly because of the transformers (which I sell for the 25 pieces price).

however, I can't sit on a EUR 15K+ investment forever, so I have to find other ways to get it back.
since the OV560 is API compatible one possibility is to sell them readily build thru a worldwide distributor (I'm in contact about this).
for sure he will add at least 25% to the price and will want it exclusive, if this happens the kits sold here are obsolete.

Quote from:  okgb
was there clips ?
no, I never do clips, but:

Both 560 channels appear to work perfectly, both mic and hi-z inputs. Thanks V. for the help on the last bits. They sound great. Very nice definition and presence. I suspect the cost of the Haufe transformers is well justified. ...

...first session with OV560.
Sounds a little like a Chandler Germanium, thick and warm  ;D

The Jensamp-51X is discontinued and out of production.

The K13117 is not 51X and has nothing to do with the Jensamp, the only part they share is the designer.

analag asked me to stop selling it / making new runs a few years ago.

Hey, volker.   Do you know if your Card Edge pcb can be used as a sort of mounting pcb for the Card Slot connector?   i don't know the spin spacing, but I'm thinking that if you cut a row of pins off of this:

you'll still have an extra row of holes to attach wires to, which you can connect to another Card Edge pcb via a snake cable (or somethin') which will actually go into the 51x slot..

It looks like the set of pins between the +48V and +24V would need to be cut entirely, tho.

Anybody in the need for a 2 x 8 to 8 x transformer balanced out relay based switch?

Did one for a custom job, and have some (limited) PCBs left.

You can see some pictures here:
http://www.nrgrecording.de/nrg/viewtopic.php?t=1623&start=15

(ignore the green PCBs and MIDI stuff, the box does some more jobs, we are talking about the black PCBs)

Post by: braeden on June 02, 2013, 09:23:24 PM
what does it do?

I looked at it for a while as well trying to understand it :-X

My guess is that it takes two sets of 8 XLR inputs, routes them through a DB25 connection into the PCB which then allows the relays to switch between the two sets of XLRs (A/B). I'm guessing it then acts as a form of D.I. by balancing the output.

But knowing Rammstein it could also be some sort of flamethrower device.

Please elaborate Volker! ;D

what does it do?
A lot of fun  ;)

the main PCB contains 10 relay, all switched at the same time.
the first eight have two 26 pin IDC connectors, relays no 9 & 10 molex, for inputs A & B (I use them for switching MIDI, and mute MIDI thru to prevent MIDI loops if switched to B)
outputs are again one 26 pin IDC and molex.
the 26 pin IDCs have Tascam layout, if you prefer SubD connectors.

the other PCBs are passive, 8 x Neutrik NC3FBV to IDC 26,
and IDC 26 via 8 x Neutrik NTL1 transformers to 8 x Neutrik NC3MBV for outputs.

just a simple A/B switch  8)

didn't want to wire it by hand, so I designed the PCBs with options for SubD25.

the older version just needed too much time doing the wiring:

All the other parts are just PSU(s), and an optical Click system.

Right.
The transformers are there to separate the System.
You never know what the light / pyro / kinetic departments do with your signal (they get the master timecode, channel 8).

Learned that lesson hard in 2000 with pyro guys using unbalanced inputs, blowing 32A fuses at the rehearsals etc.
But well, I guess they like blowing up everything, it's their job.
With transformers you are always fine at your side of the game.

Hello,

I'm so sorry, but there are no Jensamps left.
If you want a non 51x PreAmp from Daius,
have a look for the K13117 (http://www.groupdiy.com/index.php?topic=50559.0).

Hi Volker

I'm needing a psu traffo for a doac  - I used to get them from Musikding but they seem to have dried up.

Any chance you have one about that you could part with?

(And if you have any of those fab Rondo poorman traffos, one of them too! That spec was awesome)

I have some new tube stuff needing doing  :)

PS - thanks and I understand if you dont  have any.

Cheers
Alex

I need a pcb for +48v  supply in my tube amp for 2 channels. I  love the layout and pcb mounted power x-former  on the MSD48PSU, however I live in the US w/ 115V main voltages. Is there anyway to  still use the psu? Any power transformers that are similar in footprint but have 115v primary? Any help would kick ass.. Thanks for your help

Title: OMSD48PSU
Post by: tata on February 04, 2016, 09:09:15 AM
have any of you built the OMSD48PSU?

id need a little help to finish my build:

* i see 2x R10 labels on the PCB, am i right the upper one is R11 (18k)? ( http://screencast.com/t/f4qgLTBTC17s )
* i see "2x24VAC / 32VA / EI38" label on the transformer's place, but.. 32VA? i guess its 3,2VA, based on the Conrad no. 710680?
* BC560 - C or D? does it matter here?
* UF4007 instead of 1N4004 in the diode bridge - is this any good / bad?
* maybe im wrong, but it seems to me something is different around VR1 / R24 on the schematics and the actual PCB - should i worry about it? can i have a corrected schemo, please?
* insulation is needed between the IRF610 and the heatsink, right? if the IRF directly touches the heatsink, Drain(Case) goes to GND (on Top PCB layer) , wich gives 0 output.

thank you

Hi Volker,

I'm not in any particular hurry, but at some point in the next 12 months or so, I would like to standardize my mic pres to either the OV560 or the PVM70, so buying perhaps eight of them. I would like to ensure that they are as uniform as possible.  I already have two of each. In terms of parts availability (transformers, DOAs etc..), which of the two models would be the most practical to plan for? Also, I would need to get another 51x chassis. Is it possible to upgrade my current power supply to accomodate two chassis? (found the answer on your power supply thread - I'll need another power supply).

Hi Richard,

I don't suppose you have any plans to do part 3 anytime soon... 51 x version of V 476 B ?
This won't happen. However, one of my original PMV70 serial number stickers says V 476 A  :)

Both use the same input transformer, today still in production.
The OV560s output transformer is still in production, the PMV70X output transformer isn't.
Both use the OA12 DOA, I reverse engineered one and have it now available with original parts  8)

Also, I would need to get another 51x chassis. Is it possible to upgrade my current power supply to accomodate two chassis?
Which power supply do you have? We still use the same schematic for all.
It depends very much on the modules you have installed.

Fair enough - can't blame a guy for trying... ;-)

To tell the truth, apart from the difference in gain I don't hear much to distinguish between the OV560 and PVM70.  It might be nice to have a couple more  PVM70s to handle some recording that calls for that extra gain, but mostly I think the OV560s would be fine. If I can find NOS transformers for a couple of channels of PVM70, then the rest could be OV560s.  If I get 2 PVM70s and 5 OV560s, along with what I already have, I could fill one 11 space rack.

Which power supply do you have? We still use the same schematic for all.
It depends very much on the modules you have installed.
I have a fair number of 51x type channels that need 24 volts, so I will need to get a second power supply to support 24 volts comfortably across 2 racks. I am assuming that one power supply can comfortably handle all 11 of the OVF and PVM  pres running at 24 volts.

Ok cool! How many of these would fit on a rack tray? I`m trying to keep everything rack mounted. Also, how long cable stretches can you have from the PSU to the racks/modules?
Title: Re: [silent:arts] projects: limited D-AOC special incl. original Vactrols
Post by: fragletrollet on June 17, 2017, 04:35:35 AM
Cool!

How wide and tall are the enclosure? Could you fit 3 of these on a rack tray (2-3U height?)

How long can the DC cable be (from psu to modules/racks)?

How does this differ from the GDIY51PSU? Is it the same? The pcb in the pictures on the CAPI page seems different and smaller compared to the GDIY51PSU.
Title: Re: [silent:arts] projects: limited D-AOC special incl. original Vactrols
Post by: [silent:arts] on June 17, 2017, 04:43:15 AM
You can fit 2 next to each other, but not 3.

Dimensions are 17cm x 8,8cm (without rubber feet) x 35cm (without handle, without cable).

How long you want the cable to be?

The GDIY51PSU and Floor Box PSU share the same schematic but are different PCB designs.

So if I put them on the side, I could fit 4 of these babies on a rack tray? (Say the inner widht of the tray is 435mm). I`m guessing I`d need 4 u for that tough... So that would compare to having 2 trays with 2 psus on each.

Welcome to groupdiy.com! :)

The psu pcb's are pretty flexible, I use them all the time. 12Volt is no problem.

TillM is right, the 903-51X can be build VPR compatible.

While the V5672 is indeed a VPR compatible V672X it is not available for DIY.
It is available fully build and tested, EUR 490 each ex shipping ex VAT.

There are 11x  PMV70X DIY kits left for sale (51X Rack required),
I don't have any plans for offering a DIY VPR version.

Using multiple transformers is no problem.
If using the GDIY51PSU (http://www.silentarts.de/Techtalk-Laden/GDIY51PSU_rev02-Doku.pdf) make sure you have individual secondaries. You need 2 x 16V, 1 x 32V with center tap won't work here (and 2 x 24V, not 48Vct).

I think is ok then

No.

I read 24-0-24 = 48 with center tap (3 wires).
You need two independent 24-0 (4 wires).

There is a huge different between a transformer tap and a winding.
We don't need any tap, but we need individual windings in this PSU.
