Title: API 512c with 918 mod?
Post by: Songguy on March 29, 2012, 06:49:12 PM
Hi all,

I have a few API 512c's in my lunchbox. I was wondering if it would be possible to swap out the 2520 opamp with a whistle rock 918 opamp. I'm curious to see how it sound against my 512c 2520's

Cheers,
Chris

Found the answer.
Whistle rock 918 optimized for +-16v, not to exceed +-20v.

2520 is rated +-12v to +-20v

The mod is a go  :)

you can also run the 918's at +/-24V if required. :)

I believe a few (3) resistor values need to be increased for +-24v . As per whistle rock's build manual.

Almost sounds like I know what I'm talkin about :) thanks DIY board..

correct. I have a few running at +/-24V in a custom mixer and they sound good.  I have yet to put in use my +/-16V ones I built. all in time.
