About the SSL-comp circuit and its bypassed electrolytic caps:
what's the idea behind where & when to do that ?

Wouldn't all electrolytics in the signalpath be candidates ?

Just wondering,

Peter

Hi Peter,

The only places I found even the slightest audible difference when bypassing (using standard-grade electrolytics) are the places where bypass polyesters are used. I had no detectable difference at the caps not bypassed on the pcb.

Also I had no detectable difference ANYWHERE when using high-grade audio caps (was it panasonic types, from Farnell..?)

But yes, you could always solder some 100nF's onto the bottom of the pcb, if you're unsure about your capacitor's quality.

Hello Jakob,

Thanks for your reply. Aha, nice, you've tried the bypasses everywhere and skipped them where it didn't matter.

I recently re-read the Jung/Marsh cap-articles and must say they leave little room for 'accidents' - but overdoing things a bit will be close to all this as well I guess.

Have a good weekend,

Peter
