A little side experiment I did recently with the Alice mics and a couple of different (smaller) capacitors. Interesting results...

Regular Alice vs. Alice w/ electrolytic caps:

(10uF/35v electrolytic in place of the usual 470nF polyester film)

Regular Alice vs. Alice w/ electrolytic caps, bypassed with small film caps:
http://www.scotthelmke.com/Alice-electrolytic-plus-film.mp3
(10uF/35v electrolytic, 47nF/50v polyester film)

Both clips have the regular Alice in the left channel, test Alice in the right channel.

Damn - that first is indeed empty. And that was the only copy, since it was a one-off little test recording.

Anyway, the interesting thing was that I kind of liked the electrolytic caps. It was a bit darker sound, ended up sort of balancing against the brightness of the usual TSB-165A capsule sound. The second clip, with the little film cap as a bypass, ended up sounding rather harsh.

 so, maybe it's a good thing that I haven't found the time to wrap mine up yet.
may be room for a little dpdt slide switch?

Thanks, Scott!
