Hi folks:

Our contra-dance group has some E-V 660s that are getting long in the tooth and need cleaning and repair. E-V doesn't do them any more. Anyone have some good suggestions on (a) someone who does; (b) tips for cleaning?

Peace,
Paul

The only thing I know to do on them is replace or remove the pop filter under the grill. Over time it turns to mush. If you can't find any open cell foam just remove it. Take the center screw out of the grill and very carefuly remove the grill with the mic pointed down and check the filter. If it has turned to gunk gently clean it off holding the mic pointed down so no grit falls inside the mic. Put the grill back on exactly as it came off tucking the wire ends inside the edge. Check it all the way around and make sure it's inside the rim and put the screw back in and do not overtighten and strip the screw.

If the contacts at the connector have turned black just use a tiny jewelers screwdriver or exacto knife to scrape off the black. This site shows how to take the connector out for cleaning or re-wireing. If you choose to take the connector out you can check the connections while you are in there and make sure they are tight. Might even want to rotate them on the pins to make sure they are making good contact, just be carefull to note how they go on and make sure they are on good as you put it back in.

If tiny metal flakes have stuck to the magent in the vents pick those out with tweezers.

There is not much else to do to that mic, it should last forever unless it's damaged.
