Hi,

I'd like to build an ssl comp with an seperate detector.
I really love the sound of the dbx160x, but the output amp doesn't sound so clean, as the g-ssl does...

the dbx160 detector is based on a that 2252 rms level detector
U202 / U203

get the schematic here:
http://www.wiseguysynth.com/larry/schematics/dbx_vca/dbx160x_block_mono.pdf
http://www.wiseguysynth.com/larry/schematics/dbx_vca/dbx160x_schematic_mono.pdf

is there anyone who can fully read that schematic and can sort out the components that belongs to the detector circuit...

is there a (simple) way to connect the rms detector (without overeasy) to the g-ssl vca...???

thank you
jamie

It's not an SSL compressor then.

Go to That corp. website and download the datasheet for the 2252 RMS detector. There's a few good-looking examples to breadboard. :thumb:

no, but the ssl comp design already includes in/out-stages/vca and thats really good sounding..

I'd like to implement a switch between peak(ssl) and rms(dbx)...

is that schematic nearly the same compared to the dbx 160 ??

Well, the signal path is pretty much out of the datasheets, so no change there. Input and output are as basic as they come and the only thing you can tweak in the vca+opamp combo is the i/v conversion resistor. So, not much and no magic there.

Sure, I don't see a trouble switching between two different sidechains. It's really just a matter of breadboarding one and hooking up a couple of wires.

Just download the datasheets and you'll be on the roll. The VCA and RMS detector datasheets - both.

:sam:

would it be possible to switch between the ouput-signals of the 2150 / 2252 ??
or does the output of the 2252 not fit to the "ssl-timing-circuitry" ??
