My 1/4 inch jacks should be here monday from mouser as they were out of stock when i ordered them a couple weeks ago.

No smoke on power up!

Listening tests soon..

Cheers,

Z  :guinness:

Very nice one :thumb: :thumb: :thumb:
The Lorlin/Alpha type mains switch might be a little weak in this application. They are not rated for power. (But to be honest, I used them too, with two contacts paralleled  )
:guinness:

alo zee
congratulations.
the only thing i`d have done another way,it`s the dissipator in the tl783,because it gets very hot.i screwed mine to the bottom of the box.
my g9 it`s the go to pre to room drum sound, because it is damn clean, altough i used lundalhs.
congrats once again.
best regards
pedro

Thank You, I will condsider changing this out with an appropriate switch.
Nice! Make sure you let us know what you think of the sound.
Thanks , Will do.

Thank you,The Radio Shack heatsink will not do which is what I expected from all the reading in G9 thread, and is now attacheched to the chassis.
I bet the Luhndals are very nice!
Very nice job z...... :thumb: :thumb:
Thank You Peter!
Very nice, you're inspiring me to make one... one of these days.
I hope to see yours soon!

Please don't do this.
Regulators can easily selfoscillate or give you a lot of noise . Put bypass caps soldered excactly to regulators legs if you can.
Nice job, instead :thumb:
cheers

Thanks for the comments Guys, I appreciate it !

Thanks for making me aware of this !

I have been working on my G9 this weekend and have it working 100%.
I had a few issues which I wanted to mention as it may help someone building this for the first time.

The issues I ran into were:

1) The INST. Jack I had it wired wrong. At first I had no signal and the wires were very sensitive like a guitar pickup (noise/hum) because it was wired incorrectly. Then I wired it up and it was working , but the INST in was buzzing even though I could hear my guitar. Now it is working perfectly.

QUOTE: "The signal from the input transformer goes to the switching part of the input jack - so it is switched out whenever a jack is inserted. If no jack is inserted, it reaches the gain stages... Jacob"

Note: see my diagram: INST Jack Wiring

2) I did not have the ground (at the 5 wire connection) connected from the main control pcb to the switching pcb. The switches did not do much until this was corrected. I was trying to do the "G9 oscillation problems - solution" MOD and forgot to connect this ground lead.

3) The Heatsink was not large enough, but now I have a very large heatsink. FotisGR suggested having the regulator mounted with long wires may cause some self oscillation and create noise. I have a very very small (almost unnoticable) hum which may due to this?

4) I have have a black painted Par metal case and I made sure the entire box (each panel) is reading zero ohms in reference to the chassis ground.

Cheers,

Z

PS ...The G9 sounds wonderful ! ! !

Zee1usa,

Can you tell me IF the $60 front panel from FPE included them drilling the holes for you or not ?? Thanks.

Yes, the drilling of the holes only adds about $5.00 to the total.
It would be about $55.00 without holes drilled.

Another thing, make sure to be aware of wether you are sending in your own aluminum panel or if FPE will be supplying it. There is a check box for it if you did'nt already know.

- Arcotronics capacitors (yellow) they are 5uf each.
