How to read this Sprague lytic cap?

Did some searching and couldn't find a key for reading the product code.

Sprague
500D
400-25DC
USA8106H


Is it 400uF 25V? I've never seen that capacitance before. It was the coupling cap in the power supply section of my MXR Distortion II pedal. I replaced it with a 1000uF 35V and that nasty hum went away. :thumb:

Yes. Old value - from the time you could also get 0.25µF paper caps :grin:

Thanks so much for the replies. This got me thinking about my MXR Limiter pedal of the same vintage. Opened it up, and sure enough there was another Sprague 400uF, this one from 1982. I'm replacing all the 'lytics in these pedals.

One has to wonder if all the chatter on the net about "I love these MXR pedals but they're just so noisy" is mostly because they need recapping. :roll:
