I used to work in classic car restoration - so we had a use for the cotton (not rayon - actually it may have been a blend - but mostly cotton) braided wire and wiring looms.

There was a guy in Sydney that had a machine for braiding the looms (Vintage Wiring or something)

There was a belief at the time that the cotton braided wire performed better than its modern synthetic insulated counterpart - I think they reckoned it ran cooler???. Less voltage drop??

I've wondered recently if cotton braided audio cables - patch cables - would perform better than the modern "plastic" insulated cables.

Any thoughts?
