I never used the 901, but I have the rackmount RT-922 preamp and like it alot. It's a pretty simple design, no ICs, just a few transistors and two AX7s. Although, the EQ controls are pretty useless.

The BlueTube sounds good in front of a dull sounding amp, IMHO.

Actually, I did just that. See here.

I used *two* 12U7 tubes off a big (500mA, I think) wall-wart supply (regulated) to supply both the heater voltage and "B+" and used it as a boost . It sounds quite nice. (Sound sample is at the link, as well as schematic.)

By the way, there is an error in your URL, an extra
