tube noise gate? it's posible?

You're talking about a LOT of gain reduction, and to make things worse, you 're going to try and transition through many dozens of dB, VERY rapidly, without problems. Given that it's universally accepted that the BEST sounding 'real' tube compressors might be the "vari-mu" types, and that suddenly changing gain by as "little" as 20dB, you could expect have to fight 'thumps' from appearing, I think that that approach is an utterly uneconomical proposition.

The LA-2a type LDRs are unsuitable, Vactrols MIGHT do what you wanted, but the control stuff would realistically have to be solid-state anyway. -Doing it that way, you'd have a solid state gate with a tube stage in the audio path... I say just build the tibe stage and use whatever existing gate best suits the application. Cheaper, less restrictive and probably better-sounding as a result.
