I was looking for a way to step say 9 volts from a battery up to say 18 volts or 3 volts up to 18 volts. Can anyone point me in th right direction. Current consumptoin of the device is max 5mA. Is there a range of mini inverter units :?:

Easy circuit is to use an ICL7662 in voltage doubling mode. Look for the U3 chip in this circuit. You can skip the 100 ohms, but it helps to reduce output noise spikes. Voltage at C10 is roughly double the input.

...or 3 volts up to 18 volts.

Don't let the block diagram fool you - it's dead easy to build and takes up less room than a 9V battery (without the 2 AA cells to power it, of course). Sells as a kit here in Oz:

Hi thanks everyone, time to do some experimenting.

Yeah, just used a traco in a purepath repair - built in linear +/-/48 supply and used a traco 24 to 5v (400m/a) for the leds - works a treat - very low ripple - tried the unit without traco(no leds) and can't here or see any detrement in using the traco - incredibly compact as well - size of a 1cm high 24 pin DIL!
