Hiyas! New here but I've done some DIY studio and hifi building. Cool forum!

I have a pair of V672s I am going to set up to use in a 3U enclosure soon but I have read conflicting reports of their gain... 38DB once and 60DB somewhere else. Does anyone know the real gain of a V672? Not the /2 or the bogus V672D that someone is claiming are the same things. I have the huge 4A Telefunken PS though I don't need anything that big.

Also.. does anyone know anything about changing the gain on these? It would be nice to have a 70DB pre in our studio for the low output Beyer I use on my own vocals.

Thanks!

Kiira

the v672 was originally designed as a line amp with a fixed gain of 38db. but, by strapping a (variable) resistor across two of the pins you can raise the gain to well over 60db.

another thing i've heard of people doing is putting resistors in series with the input to change the input impedance. as a line amp, the v672 was designed to have a very low input impedance, and raising it may help it match some mics better.

if you do a search on this forum, i'm sure you can find lots more info on these ideas.

i think one of our fearless leaders (kev) was looking for your site a while back... did you change hosting in the last year or two?

dang. I get some fast answers round here  Ok yes I think I have the pinouts for the 672 showing where the pot should go as an input trim.

I was away in Finland for a few years and my stuff was offline. I've moved and have a nicer studio which I'm setting back up again, new console wheee. I'm going to do a nicer www page when I get a chance with some better DIY info.

thanks!

yeah, the combined resources of this forum are pretty staggering to think about sometimes.

for a thread by others in your situation:

and for the schematics to the v672 and others:

i've got a racked pair of v672s in storage right now- one of my first diy projects a few years ago. i liked them alot; hopefully you will be pleased with your efforts in the end.

good luck!
